Late last fall the National Council of Churches USA and Church World Service, as part of their 2004 General Assembly, adopted a statement entitled “The Church and Children: Visions and Goals for the 21^st Century”.

You are encouraged to study the theological and biblical understandings upon which this consideration of children in contemporary American culture is based.

Your faith community might then choose to work toward one or more of the goals stated in the policy related to:  

- the local congregation
“All children need to be part of nurturing faith communities where they are included as full members and participants…” 

- family
“All children have a right to be part of loving and safe families.” 

- public education
“All children have a right to quality public education…” 

-safety
“Every child has a right to live in a physically and emotionally safe environment…” 

-arts, recreation, culture
“All children have a right to express and celebrate their souls and spirits…” 

-economic security
“All children have a right to…(adequate) food, clothing, transportation,…housing…” 

-health
“Every child and family has a right to…health care.”   

Jesus valued children; reminding those who followed him in Mark 10: 35 – 37, that whoever welcomes children welcomes Him. How we care and advocate for the children in our homes, our churches and our communities reflects that which we hold dear - our broader values and worldviews. 

Remember you, too, are a child of God!
